About The Race
The Southside Sprint race course is 3/4 of a mile in length. Its 5 left turns and 1 right turn weave past South Minneapolis’s best shopping district and through the nearby neighborhood streets. The hill at 49th and Chicago is a perfect place for a breakaway and makes for a high-speed turn at 49th and 10th. The long finishing straight gives the sprinters an excellent arena to show their stuff.
The 2019 Southside Sprint will once again be the MN State Criterium Championship.
About The Neighborhood
South Minneapolis consists mainly of two-bedroom, pre-1940s stucco, brick and stone houses. The active business hub at Chicago Avenue and 48th Street is the home of the Southside Sprint. Restaurants, banks, a theater and other services are located around this busy intersection. Just south of the race course is Minnehaha Creek, named after a key character in the Longfellow poem, Song of Hiawatha.
